Does Algebra Exist?
“In real life, I assure you, there is no such thing as algebra.”-Fran Lebowitz
Yes, Fran, there really is an algebra and it does occasionally make people seek help.
Algebra is studied not only at middle school and high school level but also at college level. It is studied by children and adults of various ability levels. The Math Made Easy method of algebra help is effective with students of all age and ability levels because of its multimedia and multisensory approach. While other programs are completely dependent on abstract concepts, the whiteboard technology used by Math Made Easy’s algebra help program enables the student to participate fully in reading, writing, speaking and seeing the work. It allows the student to see geometric solutions to algebraic concepts in specific problems and – using the same technology – that same student may work out the problem abstractly using mathematical symbols . For example, a student needing help with the concept of slope of a line is able to draw the problem simultaneously with the algebraic solution to the problem. This connection between the geometric and the algebraic concept - along with the student’s experiential learning in real time - is effective with learners of all ability and age levels who need help with algebra and abstract concepts.
While other experiential learning experiences exist in algebra help programs, Math Made Easy weaves this effective practice into an integrated system of algebra help so that the student does not have to disrupt his learning by seeking the technology elsewhere. When woven seamlessly into the instructional package consisting of live tutoring, video review materials and online testing, the student is supported and helped by this total learning experience.
Research shows that while we remember only 30% of what we hear, we remember 90% of what we see and hear and say and do. Traditional classroom learning frequently omits using all the senses at the same time, relying more on the visual and auditory senses. Math Made Easy uses a unique technology which enables the student to see, hear, speak, and move to learn more effectively and to remember more easily. When algebra is taught as a completely abstract entity, many students who need the hands-on tactile approach are at a loss. Our unique method of helping students to understand algebra is designed to supplement and reinforce classroom work for those students whose learning style is not being served in the classroom.
Students often tell us that it is our personal attention which makes their experience with us both enjoyable and effective. Our tutors are not only heard but are also seen via webcams which bring live images directly to your computer display. Students have the option of using either headsets or telephone, enabling parents or other helpers to join in the lesson as they wish. It is this personal attention we strive for which dictates our policy of keeping a student with the same tutor as long as the student wishes. We offer hours which are convenient for most students, children and adults alike, and the comfort of your own home makes learning all the more pleasant.
At Math Made Easy we strive to make your learning experience personal, private and entirely applicable to your own situation, whether you are a traditional student, a self-motivated learner, or a remedial student of any age.
